Depression is a biochemically-induced state that affects how you feel. It can range from mild depression to a severe, life threatening illness. Here are some of the indicators of depression
Depression can be the result of something happening like the loss of a loved person or pet or a job. It can be induced by certain drugs like some blood pressure medications or alcohol or by low thyroid. But generally depression is a function of low serotonin and/or low beta-endorphin.
There are a number of kinds of depression. Bi-Polar or manic depression is when you have periods of feeling very low and other times feeling capable of changing the world. These alternating cycles can be months or years apart. Rapid cycling bi-polar disorder means that the fluctuations happen quickly and in much shorter intervals. I actually believe that untreated sugar sensitivity can easily be misdiagnosed as rapid cycling bi-polar disorder and that you cannot get an accurate diagnosis of depression until you treat the sugar sensitivity.
